Visual Basic and Oracle Programmer/Analyst

This is not a c2c position.


The incumbent will be a member of a team that will perform some or all tasks associated with the full system development life cycle, as delegated by the lead developer(s)/business project manager(s), including:
Analysis
Design
Programming
Unit, Integration and Regression Testing
Implementation
Troubleshooting
Perfective Maintenance

The incumbent will be responsible for completion of assigned duties and report to the Lead Developer/Business Project Manager.
The incumbent is expected to perform the following functions:

Use communication skills in order to work with end users in analyzing their requirements.

Use analytical skills to learn our users business processes, document the data and process models and troubleshoot and maintain existing applications.

Work closely with the systems architect to implement system designs

Design systems that meet user requirements.

Write efficient, error free programs that are easily maintainable by other programmers and conform to IFC coding standards.

Develop systems in a team environment and contribute to overall efficiency by writing reusable code, and reusing code written by others, where appropriate.

Provide detailed project, program and system documentation and specifications that are understandable by other technical people.

Write applications that are easy to support and maintain and to provide testing routines (including regression testing), error handling and error logging as part of the applications delivered.

Use collaborative skills to work with database administrators, system managers and external application mangers in order to ensure reliability, availability, and performance of assigned applications.

Use analytical skills to troubleshoot and maintain applications as needed.

Ensure that IFC policies, procedures and standards are factored into project/application design and development

4. Skill Set requirements:

The Corporate Portfolio Management Department develops, operates and maintains mission critical financial applications. This person will work with financial, accounting and data warehousing applications and should demonstrate an understanding of the needs of these types of applications as well as the ability to quickly learn new applications.
Using our existing people as benchmarks, we observe that the level of maturity required for this type of work can be found in people who have had at least five years of relevant experience. However, we believe that the quality of the person, the quality of the experience, and the difficulty of tasks previously performed, are more valuable than the number of years.

We are looking for an individual with strong expertise in the following required core competencies:
Visual Basic 6 and .NET Programming
Oracle 9i Objects and Methods, User-defined Datatypes & Complex Oracle Datatypes
Oracle SQL and PL/SQL Stored Procedures & Standard Packages
Unit, Integration and Regression Testing Techniques
Professional GUI Design
Academic/professional training to at least a Bachelor's Degree or its international equivalent, preferably in Finance/ Computer Science/Management Information. An MS/MBA would be a plus. Strong practical experience may substitute for lack of some academic credentials.

Additional consideration will be given to those individuals who possess the following specific competencies (in no specific order):
VB6 to .NET migration
Bloomberg API
C++ and Perl programming
Software such as Quest Softwares TOAD, Visual Studio, Visio, Lotus Notes, Crystal Reports, and TCP/IP tools.
Version Control Software, specifically ClearCase.
Prior financial systems development and/or professional experience

5. Selection Criteria:

We are looking for a candidate who can take a key role in designing, developing, testing and deploying Equity Portfolio Management System Valuation Module (EPMS-VM), a Visual Basic application on Citrix Metaframe with an Oracle back-end.

Our standard database server is Oracle 10g. We expect that this person can construct complex SQL statements as well as PL/SQL stored procedures.

We are looking for a person with a financial background and can interact with financial systems such as Bloomberg and International Dataline Corporation.

Our application will be presented to and executed by users through an internet browser, specifically IE6 or above. The complexity of the applications GUI will range from simple maintenance screens to complex drill-downs, menus and exports to EXCEL spreadsheets and PDF documents. Therefore, solid experience in coding to achieve this level of complexity is desired.

Our applications also require the implementation of processes and workflows and will be distributed to a broad user base. Therefore, intuitiveness and ergonomics will play major roles in the design and flow of the user interface.

Experience with modeling and testing tools is desirable.

We expect this person to be able to take a high level objective and deliver results with minimal supervision and under the directives of the project manager. We expect this person to work around the challenges and setbacks that come with every project, and deliver the results on time. Therefore we are looking for a candidate who has a high level of confidence, maturity, commitment, and who has demonstrated the drive to achieve and succeed, in previous jobs.
